To the streets we don't go, from the streets we come.

The following mini project includes photos that were taken across our capital city [Venezuela], Caracas, and the second largest city of the country, Maracaibo; from the 13th of February up until the 13th of April 2014. Just when people started to show, with more rigor, the political, economical and social discontent of certain sectors of society.

These photos display a few realities that some Venezuelans have wanted to palpate in order for other individuals to observe. I have always liked graffittis as a method or way of expression, and, even more so, when they have a political tone. I find it rather interesting when a person can remain in anonymity, due to the need to materialize and display their own way of thinking, all through a process that also happens to be illegal and seen as such a despicable way by society.

I am not a photographer, I am not an ‘artist’, I am not a politician (let’s I am not anything), and, for this reason, I do not want my photographs to be used by any side of the table nor history. (Referring to Venezuelan political elites and political parties).

I think that words have been lacking of meaning lately, and, both my brain and my heart needed a way to let go of the hate and love, that I have seen in the streets and stories during these last couple of months.

My personal opinion is not valid in this moment. I am simply documenting what I have witnessed around the streets. We would all be better off if we leave to a side what we ‘think, believe or feel’ and just observe. Observing can take us further.

The more rooted you feel to your beliefs and ideologies, the more you have a sense of belonging with whichever side in history that you think you occupy, the more you are still letting your emotions dictate your speech, the less you can recognize yourself, and of course, you will recognize the other much less.

And, why is it important to recognize the other? You may ask. Just imagine for a couple of minutes, please, use all the power of your imagination and all the processes you might use for internal creation, then, imagine a town, a city, a world a universe, with individuals, citizens like you, that think and act like you. Now I ask you: Are you acting like that person that you want to see in the streets? Are you setting an example? Do you say good morning, thank you? Do you smile? Small actions lead to a big change; not all the weight should fall in a government, nor its opposition.  The way you act is a big wave inside all of the sea.

Once you start loving, the way you want to be loved, you will soon realize that everything else comes second.

At this moment in time, I am simply trying.
